On the evening of 1 October, the last two Group A games of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 kicked off at the same time. Seventeen goals were scored, and the group was only decided in the final minutes of stoppage time.

Malaysia did their part
Malaysia needed a big win against Singapore. Bergson opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 8th minute and Wilkin doubled the lead in the 26th.
After the break Bergson scored again in the 62nd minute, Paulo Josue and Bashal added goals in the 76th and 87th, and Bergson completed his hat-trick in the 93rd minute. The 6-0 win took Malaysia to 7 points.

Indonesia answer with nine
Indonesia also needed a big win over Bangladesh. Mitchell Lee Baker, Rizky Ridho and Justin Hubner gave them a commanding lead before half-time.
The decisive moments came at the very end. Luke Vickery scored in the 90th minute, Bangladesh pulled one back in the 92nd, and Kevin Diks made it 9-2 in the 95th.
Same points, different paths
Both teams finished on 7 points. Indonesia edged Malaysia on the tiebreaker and will play Thailand in the final, while Malaysia drop into the third-place match.

One more step for Vietnam
In Group B, Vietnam lost 0-2 to Thailand and must beat Pakistan on the afternoon of 2 October to stay second. If they do, they will face Malaysia in the third-place match.
| Date | Match |
|---|---|
| 2 Oct, afternoon | Vietnam vs Pakistan, last Group B game |
| 5 Oct | Final: Indonesia vs Thailand |
| 5 Oct | Third place: Malaysia vs Group B runner-up |
A Malaysia side that scored six and still missed the final because of a few minutes of stoppage time elsewhere will not be an easy opponent. That is the challenge waiting for Vietnam if they get past Pakistan.
